Now that I have stockpiled reloading gear and components I can now actually get going on getting the rifle built. I think I have it narrowed down to a few action choices, not looking for the ultra high end stuff but want quality. Looking at the KS Arms LAR 3 lug, Bighorn origin or TL3, or Defiance tenacity or rebel. I am going with a dbm, with an accurate mag 3.850 cip length, undecided on full chassis or another vertical grip long range hunting type stock. Prefit barrel compatibility and availability is a consideration but not a deal breaker. Not looking to build a lightweight rig, as this will be more of a dedicated long range steel banger. Any advice on the action choices?

All those are good choices. I have a tl3, origin, and arc nucleus. The nucleus is my long action. Of the ones I have, I'd buy another origin and I would like to get the arc Archimedes

You would not be disappointed in the KS SAR. Mike and the boys at KS are top notch! Supporting Canadian made product is another plus. Kelbly atlas tactical are fantastic actions if you are considering something else. Most of the actions out there are fantastic, I own and or have first hand experience with a bunch of different actions and you really can’t go wrong.

Lots of great actions out there these days.

Pick the one that has the features you want, in the budget you can afford, and one that's relatively easy to obtain.

Now barrel length, twist, and profile. At least 26” plus break (have a MBM lil beast 5/8x24 with an .850 outside diameter) and sendero profile with an 8, 8.5, or 9 twist. How much longer and heavier maybe a good idea? Will be shooting 225 Eldm’s to start.

Depends on your goals.

Do you want to optimize the rifle for distance (long, heavy barrel), or keep it lighter and more "manageable"?

A 26" barrel is fine. You are going to give up a little bit of velocity over a 28"+ barrel, but for your uses that may not even really matter that much.

Barrel contour is personal preference. I personally don't like barrels any lighter than a heavy palma. My .300NM has a 28" heavy varmint contoured barrel on it.

For twist rate, 1:9 is fine. Some projectiles don't agree with very fast twist rates, going 1:8 could potentially induce issues.

I went with a IBI 1-8 twist 26" 5/8-24 thread. Medium or sendero profile. Shoots great.

Thinking back now maybe a 28" would have been a good one too. Not like I would be packing it very far either.

No issues with the 212, 225 bullets. But gives you the ability to go to the real heavies if you want.

With a brake the recoil is very manageable.

I would say Defiance, it checks all the boxes for quality, spec's and features. Gary @ Bighorn has a "seat at the table" with Defiance so delivery times are months and not yrs. Good Luck.

I went Defiance for my .300NM, where there is much less options.

Very happy with how it turned out. Polished raceways and DLC'ed, it's slick as snot. It's been a great and reliable action for me, really happy with how it performs.

The cool thing about Defiance is that you can spec a Deviant almost any way you want with their plethora of custom options.

Great minds think alike, I'm on my second for my 6.5PRC build, first was a 300WM. Its hard to turn away from the quality and service. You can build exactly what you want, and with there "footprint" getting most if not all stocks are an easy fit. Gary is a "premier" dealer of theirs, and even I couldn't beat his price and timeline for getting an action. That says alot.

On the big thick barrels, Mark @ 'Mark and Sam After Work' youtube channel recommend as big a thread as the barrel profile will allow. I kind of agree with him. It makes no sense to put a tiny 5/8" thread on a 1.1" barrel. From the perspectives of mechanical strength, looks, and most importantly harmonics inside the barrel material.

It also allegedly helps with preventing the crown from flaring out.

I'm not a machinist so I'm personal not sure how big this issue is (or isn't). Some gun smiths prefer to cut as big of a thread as the OD of the barrel allows. Others have preferences towards smaller threads, so you have more of a shoulder for items such as suppressors to square up against.
