300 RUM 208 gr A-MAX®

Hey guys

I want to shoot 208 Gr A-Max down my new 300RUM. The Hornady Website says not to use for Hunting is that because of lack of expansion I'm going going to be hunting Deer and Elk Id say a 208 gr 30Cal Bullet will drop either with no Problem anyone have any experience with these

Thanks

I've seen more than a few threads about this and most replys agree it will work fine. If your worried about it Berger sells 210 gr VLD's for hunting. I read someting about them being basically the same as the target bullets but the jacket was different, thinner if I'm not mistaken.

some guys that I talked to say the A-max seem to work better for hunting than the Hunting VLDs . They also tell me that both bullets will only work at longer ranges out past 400yrds anything closer and the bullets explode on inpact.

False. They don't explode on impact if you're using a heavy version. The 7mm 162gr, .243 105gr, .308 208gr, etc, open up easily but penetrate deep.

Here's a pic of the exit wound on a MD that I shot this last fall with a 162gr A-Max that impacted at about 3070fps...

I shoot big games with 300RUM too.
160 grain would work fine for elk but i shoot Hornady 180gr IB with 3300fps. only because my rifle oddly seems to shoot better with compressed loads. Dont have brake nor any recoil system on my rifle so it does kick like a muel after few shots down the range.
