Hi I've got a remington 700 sendaro in a 300 rum and thinking of converting it to a 338 edge. Wondering what kind of process it would be? Cost and were to start? I live in Kelowna is there a good gunsmith in the area? Any comments or advice would be apreciated. Thanks.

A new barrel. Blanks can cost from 300-550 depending on quality and material. If your smith already has a reamer then expect it to cost between 250-350 for chamber and crown and headspace. Usually this price also includes lapping and squaring your action.

you have access to many barrels in Canada stick with a quality name and you will be fine. There are endless choices that include many quality Canadian made barrels. I have yet to use one but I think my next one will be a gaillard

The conversion is dead simple. I suggest you speak with Mick McPhee in Kamloops about doing the work for you and as I understand, he has an Edge reamer as well. If you need Mick's contact info, email me and i will give it to you.

As to barrels, brands, well I deal in krieger and Pac-Nor. The only thing you need to decide is what sort of length you want, what contour you want and what twist. If you plan to shoot any of the excellent 300 grain bullets, I suggest you get a 9.35" - 9.5" twist.

Bartlein Barrels contact Jerry at HiProPrecision he has a web site. Bartlein barrels are made by former employees of Krieger and their barrel are used on alot of high end rigs, very top quality but still competative price. I know I own one.
