I am thinking of getting an E in 308 just to do that. I really want a 338 Fed in a Savage Lever. Les

Well, that is true, but I still think my 303 Savage is an Elk killer, I would probably be way over gunned with a 338 Fed.

LesIt should do so with aplomb. Just need to get a bit closer.
One of the biggest moose I know of being taken up here went down to two hits from a 30-30 with factory ammo. Local fellow was out driving with his wife when what to his wondering eyes should appear, was an eighty-five inch moose that was not far but near.
He just pulled the truck over, stepped out and whacked it twice in the lungs from around 125 yards, and the work started.
Your 303 Savage would do fine, too.
