I am sucker for old rifles, just picked up a 1951 Savage 99 in 300 savage, 24" barrel, I put a bushnell legend 2-7x32 scope on it, I really like the feel of this rifle and will be using it every fall. I am wondering what would the max range to take deer with, I have no problem taking coyotes at 400 yards with my bolt gun

Do not underestimate the venerable 300 Savage. It gives up a bit to the 308 Winchester, but
the gap is not very wide. Loaded with 150-165 grain bullets, it is quite capable out to 300 or a
little more. Dave.

I'm a big fan of the rifle and the caliber too.

Currently have 3 rifles chambered in 300 Savage, including this scarce factory 2009 Savage 16 with the accustock and accutrigger.

Haven't seen another one of these before or since!

I've got it loaded up to the point that it will duplicate .308 ballistics with a 150 grain bullet.

It would be nice to find a wood or laminate stock for it, anyone have any ideas?

As above, amen great deer cartridge. My old man (73 years old) has been using a 1950s Savage 99 in 300 Savage for the last twenty years. Been a great deer gun fiend him, and he has had the odd shot out to 250 plus yards, no issues.
Good luck!
Matt

Had it's sister, a 250 Savage, in my hands back then. Wish I had bought it! One that I regret letting get away
