300 wby best powder and bullet weight

After you decide on bullet weight, I notice both Nosler 9 and Sierra V Manuals suggest a "best powder" and the most accurate loading of powders from their testing. I do not see similar in Hornady 9 or Speer 14. Lyman typically bolds their "best load", after you decided on bullet weight.

Unless they used your rifle, and you also know the brass brand they used, the primer that they used and their seating depth (jump to lands) - what someone else found works well in their outfit, means not much for yours ...

I think it’s more what you can find powder and bullet wise. Availability is tough these days. I’ve got a bunch of 220 Hornady ELD for my 300PRC. If you go lighter with bullet choice there are more powder options available.

Mine really likes 200gr bullets, Speer and Nosler Partitions.
For powder, I started with IMR4831 but have moved to Reloader 25 but both worked fine for me.

My 300 Weatherby loves 84.5 grains of IMR-7828, in either the regular cut or SSC version, behind the 180 Nosler Accubond or Partition. IMR-4831 worked excellent as well.

I load 300 H&H, not 300 Wby. My rifle likes 200 AB and either IMR 7828 or RL26. My hunch is that the higher case capacity of the 300 WBy will call for either RL33, N570 , IMR 8133 or Retumbo, with that same bullet.

That's my LOAD as Well ! RJ

I know, it works great! It's a German (Sauer and Sohn) Weatherby Mark V, with the 26" original barrel. I don't shoot it anymore, I just cannot take the recoil................. I mellowed down to the 300 H&H.

I sure end up using a lot of old style 7828 in the 300, 270, and 257 Weatherbys. Part of that is because I have so much of it, but its also hard to argue with results. Also had good luck IMR and H4831 and H1000.

If I've noticed one thing about the 300 Weatherby it's that its more about the bullet than the powder. If your barrel doesn't like a particular bullet changing powder is unlikely to change it much. If it likes the bullet, different powders won't hurt much.
