For several years I used a M70 classic stainless 300 Wby for all my hunting. Moose, bear, several goat, a Stone's sheep, mulies, whitetails, bison and wolf. Probably 25 animals or so.
165 XLC's at 3370, 180 fail safes at 3150 and 200 A-Frames at 3070. It didn't matter which bullet I used, it was lights out. It also shot most loads at or under an inch.
I've since rebarreled the rifle to 358 Norma, but that wasn't a slight on the 300Wby. It is a truly awesome cartridge.
In fact, I'm very tempted to buy a stainless Vanguard in 300 just to have for a backup. Stick a 3.5-10 on top, and I can't think of a better all-around hunting setup.
P.S. If a rifle doesn't shoot accurately, it's the fault of the rifle, not the cartridge. I've had at least 3 300 Wby's, all have been accurate. A good one will easily shoot into an inch.
