300 weatherby

I need to get a few boxes loaded up for a trip I have been asked to go on, I have a box of 180 grain sierra game kings in the reloading room, and about a pound of H 4831. Been searching for a recipe......does 79 grains sound right or is this max load????ande help would be appreciated.....opps we are loading a 300 weatherby here..

Put the H-4831 away and use 85.5 grs. of IMR-7828 w/F-215 primer ...nuff said!

Actually 79gr is a fairly close to a maximum load according to my manuals,but h-4831 might work well in your rifle.7828 may also work well in your rifle,my manuals list 84-85gr as the maximum load of imr7828.Since you have the h-4831,you might as well give it a try,starting at around 75gr and working up.

Just my 0.02, but I think if I was using a 300 Weatherby, I'd want a tougher bullet than a Sierra Gameking.

Nosler Partition or Barnes X comes to mind as a better choice.

I too wouldnt use the GameKings, too fragile at 300 Wby speeds (probably fragile at 300 savage speeds)

Id grab some 168 TSX or 180 Partitions, 200 gr Accubonds, or something along these lines. H4831sc should work, but Id first try some H1000 or RL25.

I agree with a few of the other guys.... I don't think that a GameKing is the best choice for a .300 Weatherby. Go with a bullet like the TSX that can withstand such high velocities. That is if you plan on hunting with them, and not punching paper of course.

I use the 200 gr Partition pretty much excusively in mine, wroks very well on game, and with a velocity of 3000fps it shoots flat enough for any game I take with it. - dan

I have used partitions but a better choice yet is the Nosler Accubond, they are IMHO the best hunting bullet on the market today. Having said that, I have also used Gamekings with good success and the are a very accurate bullet aswell.

+1 for the IMR 7828.

I have been fortunate enough to be able to compare the results of many different bullets on big game,and although the accubonds were impressive,I found the tsx even more impressive.

With 180s in the 300 7828 is awsome for speed. With my last couple of 300s I shot 200 noslers with a healthy dose of H4831 for 3100 fps. Go slow and you should be able to excede 79 grs. with the 180.

I believe that the TSX is probably a better constructed hunting bullet but I have heard from quite a few people that the had a difficult time getting them to shoot. For whatever the reason they seem to be a finicky bullet, I don't know the exact reason(I've heard the barrel has to be super clean with no copper whatsoever). For this reason some guys just gave up trying to find a load and went to another bullet.

While that was true with the original x bullet,I haven't found that to be at all true with the tsx.I personally know several people that have switched over to the tsx,and all are finding it very accurate.

The first 3 rds. fired at 100 yds. through my old Mod. 70 300 H&H went .44". with the 168 TSX. My Rigby hasn't fired a group over 1 1/4" yet with the 350 TSX, and the 300 gr .375 shoots very well in my 375 and shot around an inch in my 378. Very good luck so far with the TSX for me.
