I'm looking for recommendations on premium hunting bullets for my 300. I want to run a heavy for caliber bullet bit everything I have found so far is geared more towards target shooting and not hunting. Right now I'm shooting 180s bit was think of upping the weight. I basically want a round I can use for hunting and long range target shooting. Bullet needs to perform on moose/elk size game out to 350-400 yards and maybe a bit further on deer and sheep. That puts me needing a bullet that performed on game from just under 3000fps down to 2000fps while being consistant on targets out to 1000 yards. I ran better 175gr in my 30-06 and they where accurate bit didnt perform all that great on game.

My bear was at 13-15 yards, no bullet recovered, instant death.
Moose at 50 yards, 1 shot into chest facing us from a boat. About 40" penetration(just a guess, found for sure 3+ feet inside. Huge mushroom, I'd say 60-70% weight retention.
Moose at probably 130m-150m. Didnt recover bullet, but wound cavity was big towards the offside. Big exit hole. Dropped face first.
I find them very forgiving in most guns with very good accuracy. I just load a stiff dose of Reloader 22, win brass, win mag primer. It was max load in Nosler book at 72.5 grains.
If you end up using that recipe, start a few grains lower and work up slowly. When you powder charges get into the +70 grain size, its best to approach carefully Especially as you get into longer bullets. More bearing surface equals more friction and pressure. Good luck

Since you used the phrase "targets at 1000" I will offer what I used.

190 grain Sierra MK which produced 1.5 " groups at 300 yards.
For hunting the 190 grain Hornady and with a slightly stiffer load would group 3" at 300 yards.

Both loads were from the Sierra manual based on their 190 grain MK for target load and hunting load.

You can't kill two birds with one stone here. Shoot a 180 or 200gr Partition or Accubond for hunting and a 208gr ELDM or 200gr Berger Hybrid for target.

200 grain Gameking or ELD-X may make you happy for less money, but the Accubond would be my choice for hunting and save the more cost effective choices for targets. I find the Speer Impact offering very intriguing but don't shoot any calibers they are offered for yet. The 190 may be your huckleberry if you can find it.

200 partitions work well for me.

My gun didn't like the 200 accubond in initial testing, but I haven't played around with powders and seating. I do have a relatively slow twist though.

Buddy's having good success with a stout charge of H4350 and the Barnes 168ttsx in his Ruger 77,,Taking it moose hunting this yr

178gr. ELD, IMR 4350, mag primer, shot a few coyotes at 500yds, one whitetail buck hit him in the neck facing me flip him over backward. lot of gun at close range.
