I am using 77 grains of H1000 under a 190 Hornady BTSP, accuracy is superb.
The Extreme line from Hodgdon is better as the data is good summer or winter without accuracy fluctuations.

PS, I would load something a bit heavier for griz than 180's........

I'm currently using 77.5 grains of Vihtavuori N560 with 180 Accubonds and the accuracy and velocity are second to none. That load also works with Hornady bullets, and I'd expect it would be decent with TSXs as well (assuming you work up from below).

I've also found that 73 grains of IMR 4831 works with pretty well any 180-grain bullet.

75 or 76 grains of Reloder 22 is also a classic, but I've found that it can be a bit finicky.

Personally, if I were going to load a do-it-all load with a TSX, I'd stick with the 168-grain bullet and push it between 3,150 and 3,200. Since these bullets hold 100% of their weight, there's no need to go heavier than 168 grains with anything less than an Ultramag (where the added velocity will make the 180s shoot flatter and defeat the wind better over extreme ranges).

with a bullet like a TSX, the weight of the bullet isnt all that important in how deep it will penetrate. I dont think a 200 grain would give much of an advantage, although it certainly wouldnt hurt

With a big bear inviting me to dinner I would definitely want a heavy TSX loaded in my 300 along to say no when the invitation presents itself.

May try Retumbo is you cant find any H1000. RL22 would be great also to try.

444 Shooter, RL 22 @ 74.0gr is my load with 180gr AB's in my 300WM. I have some 180TSX but nver loaded for it yet as I love the performance of the Accubonds.

I am loading 180 gr TSX for 300 Weatherby Magnum using H1000 powder and velocity 3180 ft/sec. I think that there is no better bullet/caliber combination.(30 caliber and 180 gr bullet)
3" high at 100 y and 23" low at 500y with retained energy of 2050 ft/lbs

Todd:

You are correct in this case.

After my 200 gr TSX failed to exist the moose I shot in October, I consulted Barnes Customer Service. Their answer:

" The 180 Gr TSX will penetrate a bit deeper due to the higher velocity. I think you would be hard pressed to find a bullet of any make that will go further than 36" of moose and a 1 shot kill is what we are after. Big animals like moose don't always show blood and if the moose dropped right there, his heart may not have been pumping to move any blood. Its hard to say what went on in his insides as all animals react differently.

For large body animals I prefer 200 gr bullets for my 300WM. It shoot the 200 gr bullets (TSX or Partition) pretty good with H4831.

Cheers!

My current hunting load for 300 win mag 73gn H4831SC 190gn Hornady BTSP. This year 1 Mule deer @ 186yd head shot, under the jaw and poped out one antler. Fine accuracy me thinks ! Currently working on 200 gn with H4831SC for Long Range

I have some RL22, H-4831, 7828SSC and RL25. Will give RL22 a try, thanks.
