Would anyone recomend a starting wieght for the above recipe. I have all the components in excess and would like to hear from someone whos tried this combo. BTW its for a win mod 70, 24 inch barrel.
Thanks

For your Winchester 300 Win Mag/180 Partition load, I would start at 78/79 grains of Reloder 25 and work up from there.

Most 300 Win Mags I have used this combo in will digest 81+ grains quite readily.

I use RL 25 in my 308 Norma Mag behind the 200 Partition with stellar results.
At 80 grains, It stays under ¾moa, at just barely shy of 3000 fps.

It's a Hammer!

RE-25 65.7 69.2 72.8 76.3

From the Sierra manual but far be it for me to not pay attention to what eagleye said.

Hunting Load: IMR-7828/ 76.8grs. 3100fps/ 3841ft. lbs.

IMR7828and Re25 are similar on the burn rate chart.

I have seen a number of guides that show lower maxes than I have been using.
But I also note that some makes of cases will run out of space at about 80 grains.
My 308 Norma, 200 grain load is compressed a bit.

I recommend Winchester cases, because they have the greatest space of NA made cases.
I would not recommend Federal Brass, since the tendency is for them to be a bit "soft"

Best way is to start at the 78 grains I recommended, work up carefully.
BTW, Alliant shows 79.5 grains as a working load for the 180 grain pill.

Tried some loads out today. I started with a 78gn of reloader 25 and then some rounds with 79gn and then a few more with 80gn. The 80gn grouped best at 100 yards at about 1.5- 2 inch 5 shot group. There were no obvious signs of high pressure so I will try to fine tune the recipe from there.
Thanks for the help.
