Just a barrel swap or would the bolt face need to be changed? The rim diameters are the same, but I wouldn't mind you guys proving me right.

Also, Barrel life on a 264 in a Stainless Barrel? Good, bad?

Barrel life, the answer I got ranged from poor,a few hundred at hot prairie dog shoot to almost normal. Stainless is better than Cr-Mo.If you keep it clean ,it helps in keeping pressures down.Lower pressures lower temperatures. Of course, cool between shoots,as in cold. Get it throated normal instead of to SAAMI specs,it makes it a more forgiving cartridge.

Brass is cheap ,if you don't mind it saying 7mmRM. The real problem ($) with reloading the 264 is powders,it takes a whole different burn rate to try out.IMR 7828 is on the fast side. With the new powders you can get the 3200 with the 140. Get the back issue of Handloader with John Barness on the 264,best data out there.

Why not? is right. Just remember the reason the 264 died; Winchester stopped production of the rifle with the 26" bbl., and velocity suffered enough so it was no longer a superb long range cartridge. Go for a 26" bbl., play with the slower powders and you'll have a real winner.
I believe brass is available again, but if you don't worry about headstamps it's easy to make from several other belted mag. cartridges.
When these were first introduced the best powders available were surplus H4831 and 50BMG....and the 50 BMG was too slow. Now there are 11 or 12 between these two, and something between Reloader 22 and H1000 should do the trick.

I had no problem at all finding new unprimed Winchester .264 Win Mag. brass.
H4831 worked very well in my 26" Mod. 70 with 85 & 100 grainers and H870 with 120 & 140's. Reportedly, Hodgdon's US869 is quite close to H870. I suspect RL25 and Retumbo would also be good choices. Federal GM215M primers all the way for best results.
