Hi Guys,

My Speer manual does not have any info on the 220 gr SMK's and the Hodgdon Site only has the Sierra RN as their test bullet.

I will be loading the cartridge with H-1000. Need some info if you can help me out on the 220gr SMK.

I have my Winchester Brass all sized up and trimmed. My planned load is from 73gr to 77gr H-1000 and I play from there.
Will be using Federal Magnum Large Rifle Primers.

OAL = ?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

:)

You don't need SMK data, just use data for the same weight/construction bullet. Your rifle will have a different max load than the test rifle due to a number of variables. Use their starting load and work up watching for pressure signs. As for OAL use either mag length or your preferred jump depending on how you're feeding the rifle (mag or single shot) The starting load will be safe and you will find where pressure starts getting high.

If you plan on using your magazine I would make the OAL the longest possible so they fit in the mag and still allows the action to cycle. If you don't mind single feeding I would make them as long as the chamber will allow to minimize bullet jump. I've never really played around with the bullet being right against the lands or jamming into the lands; I tend to stay around 10-20 thou away from the lands and it has improved accuracy noticeably in every rifle I've done it in. The bullets are usually too long to cycle from the magazine as a result of being so long.
