Use the 308 for most of your shooting now, keep the 338 so when life settles down for you and you get your free time back youll have a rifle that will challenge you for distance you only dream of right now.
Do you have access to the moon? If so keep the .338, as it is perfect for shooting ALR , or as it is known in big bore circles, astronomically long range.
Hey all. Really appreciate the advice. I won't make the decision in the brand of the rifle but rather the cartridge. I mean if I decide to not keep the .300WM Sako, I could use that money to buy an equally high end rifle in another calibre.
.260 rem or 6.5 creedmoor has been suggested, to keep with a .338 to use at some point in the future
Look into a Remington 5r mil spec. The new gen 2 comes in a 260 or 300 wm, and the gen 1 in a 300 wm (I have one). They do come in other cartridges but those seem to be most applicable to you. The 338 does seem overkill for only 800m.
