I have owned rifles in both calibers;
I liked the short action of the 300WSM and the recoil seemed a little lighter to me.
The 30-06, you can buy ammo anywhere and if you don't reload it is cheaper to buy.
Bottom line I don't think any of the animals I shot with either of these rifles new if they were hit with a WSM or a 06...
Good-Luck

(PS it kills things just as dead as the 30-06) Oh and by the way if I had of already owned a 30-06 I liked I would not have bought a .300wsm cause they do the same thing one just does it with a 15gr heavier bullet.
