in the end it comes down to money... you get what you pay for plain and simple! if you dont wanna do the smithing or spend the money fixing an out of the box rifle dont buy one. Remington mass produces rifles to meet a demand and they sacrafice quality to do so, hense the price reflects.

However that being said you should learn to drive a ford before you buy a ferrari!
 
I've owned two dozen Remington 700's in the last 8 years, and shot a dozen others. Had two that wouldn't consistently group under 1.5moa. 2/36 aint bad
