Looking to aquire or put together a compact medium bull barrel bolt rifle in 300blk.

I have a pair of Mosberg Patrols in 556 and would love to convert one to 300blk.
Considering rebarreling one of em...or selling it off and buying a 300blk version which I believe they produce?

I also have an older Remmy 600 in 223 that I may rebarrel as well.

Obviously/Sadly we can't shoot supressed here so my focus will be on full speed lighter bullets as a plinker/hunter.
What twist and barrel length is the 300blk happy at?
I'd like to keep the barrel as short as legal/ballistically efficient as possible.

Appreciate any feedback on putting together a 300blk bolt gun for unsuppressed lightweight bullets.

Damn...whenever I mull on this project I get mad about suppressor use....krypes they are even MANDATORY in some very tightly controlled gun countires......

I have a 1 inch bull barrel on a savage now but it's to heavy for shooting offhand, ordered a new varmint profile 7 twist 19 inches long and a boyd's prairie hunter stock, have another donor rifle here so will put a second rifle together once the barrel arrives.

you can go shorter on the barrel but you lose the perfect balance of the rifle so it's a bit of a trade off, 19 inch heavy varmint barrel has the perfect ballance, I know this due to building both a 35 rem and 358 win on the same action with the same stock.

Have a RARR compact. Heavier than normal barrel. Most accurate load I've made yet is 125gr SST. Pretty sure twist is biased to heavier subsonic weight loads on paper but seems to work well with lighter loads pushed quasi hard also.

I have a Rem 700 AAC-SD and with my supersonic 155gr A-max loads with either Lil'Gun or A1680 it will shoot sub moa.
If I recall correctly it's a 16 inch 7 twist.

The handi rifle in 300 blk looks interesting as well. Has a fancy AAC engraved on the receiver. But I just can't wrap my mind around 300blk when we aren't allowed to suppress it.

It sure is a shame we can't yet, but possibly some day things will become better with respect to our firearms reg.'s.

What with all the encroachment of homes being built closer and closer to ranges perhaps this is where we will first see this change in regulations applied. Then hopefully we can build from there...

Cheers D

It's still a fun little round and I prefer shooting it supersonic anyway. I have a couple supersonic loads that it will shoot sub moa but all of my subsonic testing has resulted in 2-3 moa. It's fun but would be more fun with a suppressor.

Even though its less well known, if you're planning for supersonic loads only then 7.62x40 is a good option since you're reaming and rebarreling anyways. It's basically 300 blk maximized for case capacity not bullet size.

Sounds like an interesting cartridge but it's going to be hard to find reloading dies and even a rifle chambered in it, it's not like there will be many gunsmiths with a reamer for it.
