I just returned home from my elk hunt.I took an mature elk using the 180gr tsx out of my 300ultramag.The shot was a little high and the bullet smashed through the spine and lodged under the hide. The bullet mushroomed perfectly to .800" and the retained weight was 160.4gr.The muzzle velocity was 3380fps and the range was 200 yards.

I was toying with the idea of trying out the 180gr TSX in my 300 win mag this up coming spring. Sounds like it preformed good for you. What was your accuracy at the range like. As your the first person I"ve heard from Who's used the new Barne TSX.

Accuracy has been averaging about 5/8" in both of my rifles.Muzzle velocity is 3360fps with one rifle and 3380fps with the other rifle.Additionally one of my hunting partners wanted to test fire my rifle and fired it at a popular tree that was at least 12" in diameter. The tsx struck the tree dead center, exited the tree, and knocked a piece of bark off of a tree behind the first one.

I just got back from my trip using triple shocks out of my new 300 wsm browning, they blow big holes in animals of varying sizes. It apears to me the pencilling thing is no more.

I was hunting western Alberta near the B.C. border.Actually in the same wmu that Martin just returned from.Myself and three friends have done this hunt for the last three years and I have killed three elk within 800 yards of each other.

Hopefully these pictures will work

The third was a cow and I never bothered to have the pictures hosted.

As a group we took three moose and really nice Mulie buck, a slew of mulie does and my son killed his first black bear. Our hunting partners had the buck and moose tags. We had fleating glimpes of elk, my son and I developed a new sense of how shifty elk are. It was really the first time we had hunted them, they are like mature eastern whitetails come friday of the old 5 day season in Eastern Ontario. You can't afford to make any mitakes at all. All in all a great hunt for us, the peace area is absolutely the best area we have ever been in, we hunted near Bay tree alberta.
Glad to hear you had success as well. How did you guys do?
Martin

Actually we were hunting very close to you.The elk weren't very active due to the hot windy weather but after hearing a bull bugling on the only calm, cool morning of the hunt, I did find one small herd and managed to take a good one. However that was the only elk taken by our foursome. We saw many moose and the one member of our group with a tag had no problems taking a bull. The other three fellows took antlerless mules, but I didn't bother myself.I see that you have also discovered why the success rate is not great for elk.I found that it takes some time to learn their habits and how to call them, but if you spend the time hunting them, you will be successful.I guess that our hunt was somewhat of a success, but it would have been better if one of the other fellows could have taken an elk. There is always next year.

Gamekings are blowup bullets, Martinbns kr had two come apart inthe first two deer he slayed, enough or me not to use them. On top of that I tried loading them in two rifles and accuracy in both was terrible.

It sounds like the tsx has won over Martin as well.At this rate sales are going to increase dramatically.Barnes has already announced sxeveral new tsx bullets for 2006.

well done hunting. could you please tell me what powder and primers, casings you were using as this sound like a very good bullet.

thanks.
