Hi Guys, I have been using 165 gr. accubonds in a 300 WSM. I was using 65.0 gr of H4350 as a load when the primer started to flatten. I bought some 165 Barnes TTSX bullets to try and got some loads from Barnes suggesting a max load of 69.5 gr of H 4350. I have never tried Barnes bullets, and the max load seems very high? Obviously, I will start at a few grains less and work up. I was just wondering if these bullets reduce pressure because of the groove on them?? Anyone have experience comparing Barnes TTSX bullets to lead core bullets with the same powder?
Thanks!!

Yes maximum loads vary from manual to manual, but it varies due to different barrel and chamber dimensions, different lot numbers of powder, difference capacities of cases , and different primers as well as different bullets. And for the record, I have used the TSX/TTSX/MRX in several cartridges, and I haven't found that I could push them significantly faster than other bullets without developing pressure signs. As with any other bullet, I start with reduced loads and work up. I knew that I would never reach the maximum load listed in the Barnes manual for a 140gr bullet in the 7mmstw as soon as I saw it, but I did work the load up a bit, and sure enough, I had to back it off due to pressure signs before I reached the maximum load in the Barnes manual. Yet with some other cartridges, I have reached or even exceeded the maximum loads listed in the Barnes manuals.

Ty Herring from Barnes sent me 300 wsm data on May 31, 2016 and h4350 is not listed as a powder for 165gr bullets. This is a PDF from 2006. I would very much like to see the data you received.

Comparing nosler and Barnes data for the 300 wsm in 165gr and comparing powders listed for both sets of data, nosler data has higher max charges or the same with the exception of imr 4350. Keep in mid they recommend lower loads for their etips bullets and new versions have a pressure Grove cut now.

Using the 140 grain TTSX in my 280 Remington and RE19, I was 3 grains over the Barnes Max.
Trying to get over 3000 fps and succeeded.
Don't know if that answers your question.

I have a 300 WSM in a Vanguard series 1. It is a shooter with both the 168 TTSX and the 165 GMX, but I am using Reloder 17.

My max load is 64.0 grains with the GMX and 65.2 grains with the TTSX These are accurate loads with plenty of Thump.

Regards, Dave.

The guy at Barnes was Ryan Farr that sent me the info last week, it was actually 69.6 grains of H4350 for max load (compressed load) and is the suggested powder, muzzle 3181fps with 24" barrel. I still have allot of accubonds loaded so I need to buy some brass, but there is none in the city. I will have to look around for a 50 pack. I want to see how accurate they are!!
Thanks for the feed back!!

I understand where your coming from. I recently started reloading for a 300WM with 168 TTSX. I started with H4831sc. The current Barnes reload data lists a max load of 79.9 grains at 3160 fps of H4831sc. I also have data from Barnes dated 2006 and it lists a max load of 74.5 grains at 3072 fps with H4831sc.

I have reloaded 165 TTSX in a 300 WSM and I used 65.5 grains of H4350 with an average 3050 fps. I tried 168ttsx but the 165 had a shorter ogive for the short mag.

Ya, that's what Barnes told me, that the 165 was somewhat design for these cartridges. i will start a little under 65 gr and work up in 1/2 grain increments. I also do't like compressed loads. I will see where 50 thou. is on my OAL and start there?

Could you please post the info sent from Barnes?

Hi Guys I have too many accubonds loaded so I thought I would buy some more 300WSM cases (Federal, Winchester or Remington by the bag). I could not find these cases anywhere!! Not even in the US??? Even Sinclair does not have anything!! I checked tons of sites!
