Anyone here have a precision rig in 300wsm? Started to read about this caliber and it seems very 1000yds capable.

Or what about all the others WSM cartridges?

thanks
JP

Keep in mind if I am not mistaken and reading correctly there are 2 versions of the 7-300 the win mag and the wsm version. That being said I am interested in the wsm cartridges myself but mostly the 6.5 SAUM's class of cartridges, the sherman and the 4S are both pretty ####ing ###y if you ask me.

I have a 300 wsm that I recently picked up from another cgn'er that I have yet to shoot but from what I have read, they seem to shine with the 165-180 gr bullet range in terms of velocity. Having said that, there is no shortage of info on this cartridge being capable at well past 1000 meters with heavy bullets as well.

Now the 7 wsm I have lots of experience with. I had PGW build me one about 5 years ago that is my "go to" long range rig. The case size is large enough to comfortably push a 180 gr SMK or Berger 2800-2900 fps with a 26" barrel. With the 180 gr and now 195 gr bullets offering such a high BC, it makes this a very attractive combo.

I have a 300wsm factory rifle with a 26" barrel and It'll push 208 amaxs to 2850. It comes really close to running with the 7wsm but not quite. Now if I was building one, I'd get it throated for the 230gr berger. A long throated 300 should run equal to to the 7 and it would have better barrel life. As for capability at 1000...with custom built wsm's, start thinking 2000!

A .300WSM will never equal a 7, given equal progression of bullets for both. The 7WSM should push the new 195 to 2850-2900fps with a 26" barrel and the right powder, and even the 230 Berger can't keep the .300WSM competitive with that...

Pushing a 195gr 7mm hard is likely going to burn out a barrel pretty quick. So your going to be chasing the lands in your barrel. The 300wsm with 230gr is supposed to give you alot longer barrel life from what the fclass guys in the states are experiencing. This is also fclass riggs with 30"+ barrels so it may not apply to what you're wanting to do.

You're probably right. As far as recoil and pure performance the 7 wins, barrel life and component availabiltity 300 wins. Both are very easy to tune.

Norma makes 270wsm brass that you could neck up to 284 right? So what components availability are we talking about?

Or you could just use Winchester 7 wsm, I have found the quality of their brass to be great. A friend of mine and I bought 500 a couple of years ago, went through and culled(only about 10 or so), then weight sorted and split them between us. About 100 are still untouched and some I have around 6 firings on with no issues, the nice part...improved shoulder, I have only had to trim once after the initial trimming to uniform all the brass.

You can also neck down .300 WSM brass from a number of different manufacturers, which is easily found, and that way you've also got a false shoulder for FF.

Have any you want to part with? I haven't seen any in going on three years.
