.303 Ammo availability

Don't laugh, I'm not a rifle guy but I'm thinking about picking up a nice old Lee Enfield. Is factory .303 readily available?

Yes. Commercial ammunition is readily available.
There is no great current supply of military surplus ammunition, though.

There is usually surplus to be had at most gun shows. However prices are spiralling upwards so grab it whenever you see it.

Is there a quality difference between Surplus and Commercial or is it that surplus is usually less expensive?

It's one of the most available calibers around. Wal-Mart, Can-Tire, you name it. Surplus is cheaper (not that much), if you can find it, but you can't hunt with it in most places as it is FMJ. The 303 is a breeze to reload if you're into that as well.

Surplus is a little cheaper, and you should always treat it as corrosive.

This might be the single most common center fire caliber in Canada. If not #1, surely in the top 5.

some surplus go's BOOOOM some go's BANG some even go's POP...
quality will vary with cordite that's 70yr's old.... but i have never found a dud and i have shot a few thousand round's of .303 surp...

if the winchester gray box is hard to extract try ingman as it seem's to be a lighter load... just my experience....

i found some 174g remington umc for $25 / 20 rnds the other day . LOL.
its depressing to see the bullet prices so high.

You may want to try the Bass Pro year-end sale.....Wal-Mart tends to do $20/20 rounds for the Federal...
