303 and 7.62x54 bullets

The CZ silver tip stuff we shot had a copper jacket and a steel core........the jacket would peel off and stick out the the entry side of 5/8 steel plates we were shooting. We recovered one of the cores, and it looks like a little torpedo.....fairly hard steel core BTW. I think I still have the stuff, I'll try and take som pics.

This has me curious, does anyone have a way to back up svt-40's claims?
I personally have not seen or heard anything regarding the using of softsteel in wartime or post-war M44 Mosin Nagant,s, before what was posted here the other day. I have a number of books on these rifles, have read a lot on all the other models, seen a lot of Web sites , on these rifles, and never came across it. I am not saying , it did,nt happen, but I sure haven,t heard of it before. I too am curious, as I have several of these M44,s plus Czech milsurp ammo. ----- anybody else seen or heard of this before ????????? !!!!!

Apparently those 311 bullets have a steel core, then a soft copper jacket with a steel skin on the outside.

I am guessing that the soft jacket is so the rifling has something to engrave.
