So. I’ve got the bullets pulled. Heard a rumour that you can re use the powder from the cases but you should reduce by 10-15% of the load.. anyone done thing with success? Just wanting to load 5 or 6 to test it out.. I searched the forum and looked online but couldn’t find much. You guys are fountains of knowledge and I would appreciate a drop or two or it :) cheers

I have done it but work up and be careful doing so. Every type of surplus ammo is going to be a bit different (especially with the Soviet/Combloc ammo) so for each lot you deal with your going to want to start from scratch with it. You might not find you have the best accuracy though depending on how large your .303 bore is. I also found I had better results just using the pulled bullet and a standard powder (personally I like 3031).

The one I had the most fun with was using pulled 7.62x39 though. I would just pull the bullet, dump the powder into the case and put the bullet back on top and it would make for a nice light plinking load.

A chronograph is a very good thing to have for this. There is no hard rule for the practice. Don't push things too hard and you will be fine. X54 bullets are often a poor fit in many .303s so I would develop something around accuracy much more than speed.

I use right around 70% of the surplus powder from the 7.62x54r and the bullet for .303 British. Then I use a fast burning flake powder and a cast bullet in the primed 54r case, fire out of a scruffy M-N.

70% is what I use too after chrono different loads. That is for the Chinese stuff I have, other countries/factories using different powders will/may be very different! Best to experiment using a chrono.

My custom built hunting rifle is chambered in .303 Brit, and has a tighter than normal chamber .
I use a FL die to size and shoulder but just slightly, and EVERY One of my hunting rounds in every rifle I hunt with are chambered and checked .
However , my match rifles get bumped and sized, but not checked, If I do run into an issue on the line I simply mark the caryridge and set it aside , and deal with it later.

I suspect that 7.62x54R is loaded with powders in the IMR3031 to IMR4064 range, (and some Russian stuff may be "3031" owing to Technical Assistance the Russians got), anyone done any comparisons?
