Ok, I've just had an idea floating around my head the past few days, and i was wondering if I could get some input.

I have a No5 Jungle Carbine sitting at home, and I had got to thinking what it would look like if I "Upgraded" it, and made it into a more Tactical firearm, with a synthetic stock and Accessory rails and the whole bit. One thing I was thinking of maybe looking into maybe a Tapco Stock or something of the like.

I know that someones going to ask the questions Why? And the answer would be why not? I don't intend to bubba the thing, I just want to know if you guys have any Idea's on how I could go about doing this.

I dont know of any tapco stocks for the Lee enfield.

And you wont get any real helpful advice in this forum. Scroll down to the "i want to paint my svt40 black" thread.

And oh yeah, WHY???
Buy a rem700. I say this because not only will you not get much support for your ideas here, there is not many parts for the rifle in question, new, old, or upgraded.
Im not trying to give you a hard time, if there was a tapco stock available, id tell you to slap it on and a no smith scope mount, but that stuff isnt common, hence my r700 suggestion.

According to many on CGN...even painting a gun is bubbing it...I say go for it, your gun your choice...they should be happy IMO becuase it will make them slightly more rare (as issued ones) and only drive up the price of their "stock" ones. To many people seem to be worried about what the price of their gun COULD BE in 10 years instead of just enjoing them.

You could always buy 2 of cheaper milsurp guns now before the prices go up...mod one to your likings and leave one stock...if your like the many others and only buy guns because you hope to sell it for a profit later on.

Whats next...don't mod your Mosin threads?

Instead of messing with an original #5 why not get a Bubba special #4 thats already been messed with?
They're a dime a dozen and you wont feel bad about chopping /welding/drilling on something thats already been chopped/welded and drilled.

Hmm.... I think I need to rephrase my question.....

I was thinking more along the lines of just getting a new stock for it..... Something more modernish. Take an Sks for example, you can take off the wood stock and put on a Tapco one. I was thinking along those lines, I DON'T want to chop and weld my No.5.

There are synthetic stocks for the No4, which will fit the No5. Or, buy a pre-bubba'ed No4, they are cheap and shoot well.

Good idea of not doing anything permanent to the firearm, since 1. it does have historical value and 2. it will make it worth less money; I can't think of any point on the "plus" side...

Hey, I have a Jungle-ified No4 in the EE up for grabs! :D

I think what folks are trying to say is

Your number 5 is valuable as is. sporterised it is much less so. there are a million sportered enfields around at fire sale prices i would grab one of those. Also stay as far from the ATI stock as possible, it is an utter POS.

I'm about as "keep-it-original" as they come BUT.....

if you want something more "tactical", there really ISN'T anything much more genuinely TACTICAL than a Number 5. They were designed for jungle fighting and they worked very well.

If you're talking about "Kool Tactical", on the other hand, I say just go ahead and have fun: just DON'T mod anything that can't be UNmodded.

Yes, plastic Number 4 stocks are a bolt-on fit for a JC. They might require glass-bedding for better accuracy, but then, you can say that for ANY rifle.

No-drill/no-tap mounts are available from friend GAIRLOCHIAN on this forum, or you can getone of those super-nice S&K Insta-Mounts, which is wha I am using on my own target rifle. Again, a Number 4 mount is a bolt-on for a Number 5: NO trouble at all. Bolt on in about 15 minutes, SUPER-solid and you don't have to drill any holes at all.

Don't know about a "tactical" magazine for the thing. I HAVE seen Bren mags modded to a JC, but they no longer will fit on a Bren, so they are no longer a dedicated BREN mag but now are a dedicated JC mag. Gives you 28 rounds if you don't stuff it too full, looks super-macho.

Just don't wreck an original rifle, that's all, or the Enfield Gods will GET YOU!

Hope this helps.

"...made it into a more Tactical firearm..." Aside from there being no such thing as a 'tactical' anything, a battle rifle is already as 'tactical' as it can get. Designed for use with PBI tactics. Putting a synthetic stock on a No. 5 Rifle will just increase the felt recoil. Scopes and flashlights on a battle rifle are daft.
