Sounds like you have a headspace issue, and likely a rough chamber too. If your case heads have separated more than once, this is definitely something you need to address in order to use this gun safely. It is really common with the .303 mind you... but I'd still address it.

If you have a sharp 3/8" (preferably SAE or NF but a NC should also work) tap you can run it into the cartridge case a few turns and then run a cleaning rod down the barrel from the muzzle and knock the case and tap out.

Read this somewhere, did not invent this.

method one
split jag end in two with a fine hacksaw. Spread the ends apart a little wider than the bore diameter. Push cleaning rod down the barrel from the muzzle end. Thread the modified jag on the rod and slide it past the ruptured shell neck. It will snap, then give a good tap on the rod and the shell should pop out.
If it doesn't, method two
close bolt, insert rod from muzzle end until it touches the bolt. Mark the cleaning rod but also make a mark approximately the length of the case plus one quarter inch.
Then insert toilet paper and pack it in the headless case bit by bit, right up to the second mark on the cleaning rod.
Raise the rod 6-8" and drop it onto the stuck case. It should fall out in a few tries. Worked for me. Now I prefer method two. Cheap, no mess.

I stuff a cleaning brush either down the muzzle to catch the neck mouth and push it out or stuff it into the breach end into the broken shell, give it a twist and pull it out. Just did it Sunday. If stuffing fromt her breach end use a wider brush.

If you can't get a tap, a suitably sized screw will do. A brass rod that's a wee bit smaller than the bore diameter should pop it out from the muzzle end too. Do not use a live round.

If you put the gun in the freezer for a couple of hours, the expansion of the barrel and case will be different and removing the broken case by any of the mentioned methods might be easier.
