.303 extractor tool

long story short: i had some reloaded ammo to shoot and as you can guess i got a split casing stuck in my No.4 mk1.

having forked out for an extractor tool, and this is really embarrassing, i dont seem to be 2% smarter than it to make it work.

anyone want to help me out? maybe and idiots picture map?? :)
 
The one I have: you push it in the chamber, then push the bolt in, the extractor will grab the tool and pull out the broken case.

the base broke off, so i have the majority of the casing minus the primer and rim stuck inside the chamber.

the extractor i have looks like an actual round, it appears to grab the casing and pull it out via the bolt extractor. for some reason i cant get it to grab the casing inside.
 
you may have to adjust the tool so it grabs the case mouth. Also try slamming the tool into the case so the teeth get a good bite on the mouth.
 
ok i appreciate everyones help but this isnt getting me anywhere.

the extractor i have has 3 pieces and as far as i know its an original used during the war. i realize that i may have to adjust this tool and ive tried that so im obviously doing it wrong or im missing a piece.

from what i see the base with the threads in it is supposed to tighten up and hold in the extractor part with the teeth in place? thus when you work the action the broken casing is in theory extracted. the problem is either i dont have enough threads to tighten up the base or there is something missing. or maybe im doing it wrong so can someone give me some advice?

I had the same problem, in this forum there is a thread called "303 case separation" , have a look through there, lots of good information that helped me out. Long story short I made a brass crochet hook with a slide hammer on the end that would pull out the stuck case.
 
An Enfield extractor has the extractor itself(no teeth), a wee 'L' shaped flat spring and a screw. It won't help getting a ruptured case out. A ruptured case tool or a tap will. Sometimes a big screw will do it too.
Brownell's and Gunparts carry the tool. Gunparts Item No. 881530A. $9.25US. Goes under the extractor, into the case/chamber and you open the action to make it work.

In case of worst, you can always just chamber another round and extract, if it's tight enough, it should be able to pull it right out. Then ACTS PROVE the rifle. Should be good to go.
