I just bought a full, sealed crate of .303 surplus MkVII ammo, and was curious about the headstamping.
The headstamping on the cartridges are as follows:
D A C-Broad Arrow
44
VII
Now, I know the DAC is for the Dominion Arms factory, and, of course, the 44 means 1944 production, and the VII means MkVII ammunition.
But, everywhere online I've found says that there should be another additional stamping on the DAC ammunition, to designate bullet type. The list of MkVII ammunition codes that DAC produced, from the sources I've found, is limited to four types:
BC VII - Ball, Cordite
VIIZ - Ball, Nitro-Cellulose
IB VII - Incendiary
AP VII - Armour Piercing
As there's no other markings, I'm assuming that the ammo that I have is just plain ball ammo, but everywhere I've looked, states that the ammunition produced by DAC had a secondary marking code, which my ammunition is lacking.
So, any help much appreciated.
<Edit: And yes, before anyone asks, I've already searched the forums for this, but wasn't able to find an answer.>
