.303 Headstamp

It is good stuff but don't shoot it at steel gongs or any other hard targets, I've had this stuff bounce right back from a 200m gong and hit the roof just over my head. The all silver 303 bullets from that time period are some sort of AP type but not with a penetrator, the whole bullet is hardened.

The bullets I'm talking about are all silver... I haven't seen silver tipped ones but I do have some blue tipped ones kicking around, Any idea on what they are?

I would have to say that the silver bullets that I shot where not just cupro-nickle jacketed. They where harder than my hardened steel gong. A 338win doesn't do much to the gong... the silver bullets (I fired 4 before I wised up to them bouncing back and hitting the shooting shed each time) dug right in about a 1/4" or more at 200m and left perfect impressions in the steel that I could fit an unfired bullet into. These impressions are still in the gong after 10 years and many 1000's of assorted rounds later including a lot of steel cored 7.62x39 and IVI 5.56mm, not to mention the 338win.

Humm.... they could be AP that had the paint cleaned off of the tips. Do you still have the cases? Do you remember what the headstamp was?

I've still got about 17 rounds that I think where the same. There is a range of head stamps but the most common is R broad arrow L 1938 W I
Most of the others are KZ8 1943 VII or something like that. One of the R broad arrow L ones is damaged, I could try pulling the bullet. The bullets are all silver and a magnet sticks to them both at the widest portion of the bullet and the tip.

R/|\L = Royal Laboratories
WI = Armour Piercing MK I.

K usually indicates Kynoch & Co.
1943 (year of manufacture)
VII is Mk 7 ball ammo.

Not sure what the Z8 is, I would have to see the headstamp.
