Oh really?
Now, THAT's interesting, because Ishapore in India and POF (Pakistan Ordnance Factories) at Wah Cantt both make all the parts for the SMLE with the exception of bodies. And the Pakistanis ALSO make the Number 4, at least in parts.
Both their Armies are still using these rifles for training, target shooting and likely still have formations using them.
All we need now is for somebody to bring in 500 of each. Get them at the right price and I'll take half a dozen.
What we don't need is a typical 'Canadian' solution: bring them in at 30 bucks and sell for 300. Manufactured price of an SMLE today, using the original techniques, should be about $1,000... and the barrel was one of the easiest components to make. Now we have CNC machine-tools that you can set up and walk away from, go have a beer while the machine finishes the job.
I'm not slapping ALL Canadian importers, but there are limits. I was just surfing and on the website of a certain binational sporting-goods chain; their Canadian prices are 50% above their American prices, and our dollar is 99.5 today. That's just a BIT much.
But bring 'em in and we will buy....
