.303 reduced loads with handgun bullets?

anyone tryed this? im thinking a .32 100g hornady XTPHP and ~2400 fps

any tips/tricks? would be a gopher/rabbit/youngster load

im thinking similar power to .30 carbine

This is where cast lead bullets would really shine in this rifle.

I shoot a .311" 88gr cast Lee from my Mosin with 9gr of Red Dot. This same bullet and powder would work fine in a .303 British.

I use a 170 cast .309" bullet from lee and paper patched up to .314". It's pushed with 7 grains of trail boss and shot in my fine Martini Vintage rifle. It's accurate and a hoot to shoot.

Be verrrrryyyyy careful what you post. You could get banned. I'm pretty sure shooting youngsters is a criminal offense!

I have shot .00 Buck, Jacketed .32 pistol bullets and paper patched 180 grain cast, all with 8 grains of HS6.

They all worked well enough to shoot rabbits and such.

I've used 9gr 700x with .312 round balls as well, works good for plinking and my son shootign at 25 yards, but i wouldn't use i tfor gophers

Yes I should have mentioned my light load was for plinking not taking game.

The old-timers used to do this sort of thing specifically to take camp meat - rabbits, grouse, etc - instead of hauling another rifle along. Not sure how they got them to group at the same point. Maybe they just knew where to hold off.

I use almost this exact same recipe, except I use 17gr of SR 4759.

You could also use 11grs of IMR Trail Boss with the same bullet. Its a great powder, and if you plan on loading cast lead bullets, its the go-to powder IMO. I use it a lot in my 30-30, but also in the 303.
