My father has an old 303 savage and he had been looking for ammo for this
thing for a long time, years infact. So one of his friends referred him to this
Budget shooters supply and he then purchased what he thought was
Hornady .303 savage (I didn't even know they made 303 savage at all
anymore) So the stuff shows up and i came over that day (We were working
on his barn) So i looked at it and i open the box and to my surprise instead of
of finding rounds stamped hornady on the bottom they were stamped PPU.

I was instantly infuriated... Never in my life did i think i would run into issues
with people counterfeiting ammunition. Im more upset because had i not looked
at these rounds and said anything to my father he wouldn't have known any
better... Until he shot them. I know for a fact PPU is garbage ammunition. This
crap keyholes at 50 meters! Ive shot it out of my 303 British and 308 and its
always loaded inconsistently. Now i dont know who to point fingers at yet...
Was it budget shooters supply or hornady? I want to get to the bottom of this
and find my father some legitimate ammunition that isnt serbian garbage in a
hornady box.

If you guys could help me out that would be great i just want to find out how
this happened and why. Maybe someone else has run into this issue with other
ammunition. Id call the guy at shooters supply but im not sure its even his fault
but i would probably lose my temper over the phone and just point fingers and
then i would look like an ass. I just want to get my facts all straight and
go from there.

Hornady may very well repackage the PPU stuff? Are you sure that's the ammo you are thinking of when you say it's garbage? That is PRVI Partizan, I have a bunch of it in 7.62x39 and it seems like very nice ammo, quite accurate in my SKS.

Email Hornady and ask, if some one is using their boxes I'm sure they would want to know. I don't think Budget is to blame Henry is a upstanding guy, I have dealt with him for years with excellent service.

Thank you snow dog. I'm glad i asked before i went flipping out on people.
Appreciate your help a lot. Avoided unnecessarily blaming and pointing fingers.
Ill let my father know that the ammo is ok.

As far as I've seen they do just use the brass then load it using their bullets. It keeps the cost down since ppu i believe is the only company currently making it. The brass is good quality from what I've seen. I shot the .303 sav from hornady but it seems lightly loaded since the primers popped out a touch... But shoots well enough to get that antique going again.

It makes him happy thats what counts. I was just super concerned about that ammo considering what
i saw when i shot it out of my 303 british and my 308, this stuff was key holing and and loaded so
inconsistently it was unreal. And ive had 3 cartridges out of one box not shoot, and my 303 British
NEVER screws up. Generally speaking PPU is garbage. But if hornady is loading it i trust it.

Thanks again guys
