303 savage

I have some .30-30 brass that has been altered. I've never shot any of it. If you want to try some, send a PM.
Edit: Not formed from .30-30 after all.

WARNING, the 30-30 web is dangeriously smaller than the 303s.

That said, I do use 30-30 to reload for my 303s BUT only use the brass once (for hunting) then destroy it as you know web stretching will have taken place!
 
I didn't form them, acquired them with some other .303 Savage cases a while back. Never used them because I have an adequate supply of original brass. The .30-30 is noticably smaller in diameter. As senior has pointed out, it is not the ideal parent case. All that would be needed to use .30-30 is FL sizing and a trim.
 
You usually read that it is .308 dia. but alot of people have slugged their barrels and find out is closer to .312"(.303). Empty brass avail. from Buffalo Arms.

Anybody currently making dies for .303 Savage or is it strictly a "take your chances at gunshows" kinda thing?
 
Bore always was .308--bullets were supposedly larger for increased performance--most that I have measured didn't go over .309.

The closest case to form is .220 swift and they work but if there is much wear on the extractor they don't always extract reliably. If you look you can still find adequate supplies of ammo/brass. The Lee dies work fine in this chambering.

Just went through a cache I have. The reformed brass is made from RP .30-40 Krag, the heads being swaged down to Savage diameter. Very nicely done. This would require a bit of serious tooling. The results should be vastly superior to reformed .30-30.
