Stick with the wood its much nicer looking and plastic stocks for some reason dont suit the .303 very well
and like Sunray stated felt recoil wil increase considerably

if you are going synthetic, toss the Ramline and get a Butler Creek (more weight) or one from Advanced Technology. The butler costs more but will be worth it. the advanced should be comparable to the ramline but better quality.

I agree with the ATI comment, i put one on my 303, it is a parker hale refurb, wonderfull gun, but the stock is great, i really like the feel and it fits really good, cant really say there's much recoil to it either , mind you im a big guy so i dont find recoil bad on many rifles... ive fired many big bores as well.

shot lots of enfields with ramline and ATI stocks
Found the longer length of comb actually made recoil easier to handle
I wouldn't worry about it
We're not talking about a belted magnum cartridge here

I switched from wood to a ATI synthetic and didn't find much in the way of increased felt recoil. The wood was swelling and changing my POI as much as 3" at 100yds during a week long hunt.

enfield stock

This might not matter to you but Numrich has new Walnut stocks for your 303 if your interested fair prices to Im told. If its just a case of a crappy stock some people prefer the wood to the synthetics;)
