anyone have any experience with this? will a 303 chamber clean up without seting back the bbl say on a enfield or P14 simply by reaming the chamber with 7.62x54R reamer?

Yeah a double shoulder will happen. But if firing steel cases, who cares? Or even brass just neck size them. I think its about a 1/16" shoulder Just above the 7.62 shoulder.

Anyone else see the irony in this?
Many years ago x54R ammo was hard to find and expensive so SVT40s were rechambered to 303...

Not really. Just tease the milsurp gods; someone should, therefore, sacrifice one & then sure as ####e, 303 surplus will magically start to appear again in (boat) ship-loads!

;-)

I wouldn't want to bet on feeding and function in a #4. In addition, bolt thrust is increased and if there is a rifle in which increased bolt thrust is detrimental, it is the Lee Enfield. A P14 would be a better choice.

yea I know doesn't seem right at all. I was curious if it would work on a beater number 4

P14 beater would be a much better choice. The expert opinion seems to be that 7.62x54R is a bit too much for the No.4 action. If your chamber and cases were always oil and water free you'd probably be fine, but if not you might have issues.

I have my Lee Enfield No1 MkIII 7.62x39 conversion almost finished and this makes me ask an interesting question. If you do all the work yourself and convert your Lee Enfield to a 7.62x54R or 7.62x39, does that make it a "homemade firearm"? Some ranges have a rule that says " No “Homemade” firearms/devices permitted " , What does that mean to a rifle you build or rechamber?
