Anyone shot the Speer 168gr hp Target Match? How do they compare to Hornady or Sierra’s in the same weight? They are less than half the price of Sierra 168 hp and only 75% of the Hornady. I’m going to try some as my Kimber shoots the Speer boat-tails in 165gr very well but thinking some actual target designed bullets might be more consistent. Not shooting over 500 yards for starters.

I guess no one has ever tried the Speer bullets ?I use Speers for my 300yd or less hunting rifles (older lever guns, military surplus rifles) because they are relatively cheap. In my experience more often than not i don't get the best accuracy with Speer bullits. For long range shooting I try several brands and see which brand works best in my rifle and then stok up on that bullet, same lot if possible. When you add up time and cost of reloading accurate ammo for 500yd+ shooting cheaper bullets are not always a bargain.Glen Zediker wrote some great books on accuracy reloading. He makes a great point about the fallacy about "bargain "practice" ammo. He felt such ammo was a waste of money and time when you look at it logically (wasted time, barrel wear, and wasted money).
I have not shot the bullet in the OP, however the ‘bargain’ argument deserves a caveat.
If one has time and resources, I see no harm in exploration. My rifle shoots the discontinued hornady steel match better than anything else that i have tried.

The BC is lower on the Speer, they aren't as consistent as the Sierra, I also find the Hornady's are more consistent.
They shoot great, you can get low ES/SD with them, as with most bullets. But you will start seeing inconsistencies as you work your way out further. Inside of 500 yards is a bit harder to tell the difference. I like them for the price, but I just shoot for enjoyment, not for anything competitive.

I tried them they worked well. In my 308 they weren't as tight as the speer 190 gr match bullets. Hard to find either around here though. - dan
There just as GOOD as Hornady BUT not as Good as the Sierra 168 MK s out of 2 of my 308 HB rifles !
I use them for steel bashing as the Accuracy is NOT needed like it is for SCORE shooting !

There’s no public range’s over 200 yards close to where I live. They’ll shoot good enough at that distance. If I drive just over an hour to where I used to live and set up out in the country I might be able to 500-800 yards. That’s where better bullets will pay dividends. They sound like they are sufficient to start, but will likely lead to more expensive bullets for the best precision which is usually the case. Thanks for the input.
