308/.22 Converted Enfields

What's the usual going rate for an Enfield converted over to .308 or .22? And what is the story behind their conversion? I've read bits and pieces - used for training purposes (the .22) or converted for targetry (.308).

Was it only the No4 that wound up being converted in this way? I noticed a No1 on the EE in .22, but have yet to see a No5.

It seems to me that a No5 converted to .308 would be about as close to perfect as a dependable, rugged rifle as you could get - do they even exist?
 
Nice training Lee Enfields (.22's) are not as common as the .303's of course, so they are more expensive. A few from time to time show up here in the EE section.

Jungles in .308: I think there were a few commercial ones; by Gibbs? I think they are No4's in disguise though, not original No5's.

Re. dependability: I can't see any dependability with a No4 in nice shape...

Now AIA makes brand new versions, they probably are pretty good too! (don't have one here though)
