Ive am thinking of starting to acquire rifles in the same cambering for logistical purposes. What I mean for that, is I could have one round for several different types of firearms. Since the 308/7.62 is still widely popular and produced, and a large verity of both modern and vintage rifles were chambered in it, it would be a good choice.

I would still collect and shoot rifles in "legacy" calibers such as Enfields in .303, Mausers in 8mm, and so forth. But the .308/7.62 rifles would be my go to shooters.

So, what milsurps that are generally common were either converted or produced in 7.62/308?

Ones I know of are:

Lee Enfield No.4.
Ishipore 2A1.
K98 Mausers, notably Israel conversions.
Spanish FR-7 and FR-8
M1 Garand rifles.
Argentinian FN-49

Any others?

Thanks.

The Chileans re-worked numbers of their M1912 Mauser rifles and carbines to 7.62 using modified M1903-A3 Springfield barrels. Then we have the US GI M14 and it`s clones, incl the Norinco M305. The FN would be a good one, but if you own one it will remain a safe queen, just like a US GI M14. The Italian style Tipo 2 Garand is a nice one in 7.62.

The Norwegians had converted some K98ks to 7.62 Nato as well (not nearly as common as the .30-06 converted ones).
There are the GC-63s (I think that was the name) based on a M96 Swedish action which were rebuilt (or purpose built) as target rifles in the 60's
Otherwise I am sure there are numerous South American and Spanish converted rifles (for the Spanish they also converted many other rifles than the FR-7 and 8).
