Hi Guys,

Just a some quick questions.

I managed to get some 1F brass and while sorting them out. I found a few with "N 7 308" stamped on the bottom.

Anyone can post some info about these brass?

Which company made them ?

Thanks for any input.

Cheers

Let me google that for you:

On the presumption that the N is the maker's mark and the 7 stands for 2007
http://cartridgecollectors.org/?page=headstampcodes

N Birmingham Metals & Munitions Co., Birmingham, UK 11
N Dum Dum Arsenal, Dum Dum, India 11
N National Cartridge Co, Belleville, IL 3
N Nitrogen Budapest, Budapest, Hungary 3
N P.W.U. Fabryka Amunicji, Skarzyskó-Kamienna, Poland Note: PWU stands for Panstwowe Wytwornie Uzbrojenia (National Factory of Armaments). N usually shown as Norblin the metal supplier 1, 7
N Rheinisch-Westfälische Sprengstoff, A.-G., Nuremburg, Germany 1
N Unknown Factory, Found in Central Africa

I dunno, pick one? I imagine it could be narrowed down further as not all those manufacturers would have been in production of .308 during 2007.

There's really a Dum Dum Arsenal Co in India?

LMAO

Talk about a marketing coup, just imagine the advertising possibilities.
So this is where Dum Dum bullets were invented, I'm getting an education everytime I log in.

Dum Dum was a government arsenal, not a company. It operated until the end of World War I ans was indeed where the eponymous bullet was developed.

The correct title for the .303 Dum Dum round was the "Ball Mark II*" or "Mark II Special" as it is sometimes officially referred to.

The N could be for a contract by Norma. Another possibility......during the South African arms embargo years Hirtenberger of Austria produced "clandestine" ammo for the RSA with different letters at 9:00 and a number at 3:00. If your N 7 308 are at 3:00/6:00/9:00 it might be brass from that RSA/Austria contract that was later sold for surplus.

Yes ..... That's how the stamping is located.

9:00 = N

3:00 = 7

6:00 = 308

Thanks

Do yourself a favor before resizing them.....get a flashlight and look down the case mouth to make sure they are not berdan primed.

I believe I came across some of these a few years ago... range pickups. They were boxer primed, but when I ran them through a sizing die, the de-cap pin got stuck in the flash hole, and I didn't have any spares at the time. I can't find them, so I might have thrown them out so they wouldn't get mixed in with the good stuff. Just be careful of undersize flash holes when you go to resize.
