An old timer in town wants to know if I could find him a missing "insert" piece for his Garand. He says it goes in front of the shells in the mag well. Any idea where a person might look for one?
If one is self-organized enough, not to mix up 308 and 30-06 in en-bloc clips as well, the insert is not required with a properly funtioning, 308 Garand. An old timer in town wants to know if I could find him a missing "insert" piece for his Garand. But for some-one who is going to loan his rifle to someone unfamiliar with this rifle, I can see it's needed for safety reasons alone.
The space is to help prevent the 308 rounds from slipping/creeping forward in the enbloc while firing.
It’s not a safety issue, as the 30-06 will not go into a 308 win chamber as it’s too long for the bolt to close. Remembering also the 308 shoulder/case dimensions are larger than the 30-06 body dimensions and will not close as well.
