308 in M1 Garand

message Zdragunov on the forums, he builds and sells them for about 1400$ with new stock and reparkerized recievers and criterion 308 barrels ( and almost all NOS parts) look on the EE surplus section for his ads or PM him ,my rifle is in the mail already and judging by the pictures and video its going to be a kickass shooter..

If you're firing commercial rounds other than the Garand-safe .30-06 your best bet would be to use an adjustable gas plug or at the very least one of the wallowed-out plugs that decrease the load on the op rod. That will let you tune your gas system to whatever your favorite loading is, and not be caught out by insufficient gas short-shucking an otherwise reliable gun, and avoid battering the parts out of your gas system from overpressure.

Zdragunov is building me one in .308 as well, getting an adjustable plug in mine though as far as I know this way would allow for any ammo, you should order one I think theyre about 50$ probably will let your new baby live a long healthy life.. Let me know how you like your rifle when you get it serbinator.

I have built a number of garands in 308 and 7.62 x 51 there are not the same issues with the nato round as the 30.06. the gas port is actually increases in size to allow for proper cycling, in the Nato version there is a wider range of of acceptable loads due to the powder load in the 308/ 7.62 being lower than the 30.06.

I have a 308. Garand too. Just dint shoot heavy loads like 180 or higher I am shooting 168 with #### still attached in 308. As for 7.62x51 I assume about the same thing but again bullet weight is important.
