C'man you cant review it and not say where to get it ! Also I cant post with out my own review !

My first 308 Brake was a Core Tac and to be honest, I would rate it an 7/10. It is easily available on the site. It worked very well with so many large ports. By no means was it babied but it wasn't miss treated either, it held up and did its job no problem. It was pretty easy to clean I have fat fingers but a pad on a stick worked well. I felt like I had a GIANT brick on the end of my rifle though, it was big and heavy as sin ! Attaching it was very easy, screw all the way in till max, back off till level then tighten down the screws on each side. Clamped on with a little Loctite and never had it go flying down the range on me. This brake does the job but is big and ugly ! Super easy to put on, I would recommend it if your just looking for a quick performer on the bench. Mind you it is a little pricy coming in around 225 before tax and shipping. Where to get it? My current brake on my rifle is a badger ordnance thruster muzzle brake; I would rate it a 6/10.

It had to be installed by a smith for timing, bored out and decided to have it painted to match the factory black paint of the barrel of my savage (unfortunately it does not match as much as I would like). It was middle of the road for price point initially as the brake itself was about 80$ if I remember correctly. At the time, it was available from Wolverine, however I cannot seem to find it on their site anymore. I like it for using it on my .308 because I am still shooting some superformance 178gr bullets through the rifle and it is helping with recoil as I did put a couple of rounds through the rifle before the break was installed. I think as I start reloading and will not be loading them near as hot I will switch to something like an AAC single chamber no mount break just for aesthetics. Again nothing against the break I have now, just what I like changes all of the time and I don't think loads that will be loaded not nearly as hot, I don't think I will need something as effective but that will be remained to be seen if ever get the the new aac break to try it out. I use a core tac break on my 308 ! It large its heavy but like you say it's easy to put on and works a treat . So why is it so expensive.? I haven't used any other brakes ,are they poorly made ?

About 100-160 seems to be the middle range for brakes. As far as I can tell, its mostly mark up. Maybe the clamping system on core tac requires a bit more machining but to bump the price up that much seems like a lot. I want to try the lantac dragon but its on a higher end (200 plus tax) and I personally don't like the look of it.

i use a khantrol solutions clamp on brake. cost me around $200 shipped and no need for a gunsmithing at all. installation was super easy, slide it on, level it and a little locktite on the screws and i was ready to go. cleaning is fairly straight forward, and it matched up with my barrel quite well. I only have about 200 rounds through it so i can't quite tell about the durability. It hasn't come loose or shifted or flown down range though. It provides a good amount of recoil mitigation and I'm quite happy with it. I was also quite impressed they offered several sizes for barrel o.d. and a printable measure system. for those of us without a threaded barrel it's an excellent option. I'd give it 8/10 right now simply because i haven't really had enough trigger time with it.

Here's a question I haven't seen asked..... Is there a list of brake manufactures anywhere online? Also is it legal to just order a brake from USA or Australia to canada without paper work? The coretac looks good, but I'd like to see more, I certainly like the terminator style from Australia but can we even get those here?

American Precision Arms line is the best in my opinion...
Only ones I have seem rank higher in any testing is the Surefire breaks because of their ability to accept a suppressor in some of the testing
Port design is awesome and super effective...check em out

Out of curiosity I asked the 'terminator' guys if they ship to Canada... and yes they do

They're based in New Zealand.

I don't see a problem shipping brakes internationally... but from USA I don't know as they are a bit kooky with their ITAR classifications for various parts.

Shipping from the USA is a pain but 95% of the manufacturers have distributors in Canada. If you send them a quick email they will tell you who you can buy from up here.

So far Surefire seems to be the hardest to get your hands on and One Shot is working on this. They won't be able to stock them because of the associated paperwork but they will be able to facilitate an order.

In my .308 (that I no longer have)

I went with a brake from defensive edge. I ordered direct from them (50$ IIRC at the time) and had them mail it directly to Guntech, who had my rifle.

The brake arrived and Dennis installed it. Overall I think it cost me installed somewhere between $100 and $120. Gunsmithing cost being the variable one depending on where you go and who with. That and exchange rate of course.

The brake performed well, it was a little on the larger side, both in length and diameter vs. the muzzle diameter.

For recoil reduction I'd rate it at 8/10 It really reduced the recoil alot.

recoil reduction was not my main concern and reasoning for buying a brake though, it was muzzle hop for keeping sight on long range targets at high magnification and reducing time to reaquire and re-engage targets. I would rate the brake for that purpose at 8/10 as well, not perfect but it really improved my ability to keep the muzzle pointed at the target at 800yds away with 32x magnification thereby allowing me an easier time watching the splash.

The Defensive Edge brake did not have ports on the top as some brakes do so i'm not sure if one with top ports would improve that much if at all, but something to experiment with perhaps.

I have a Defensive Edge brake on my 338 Edge.

It really cuts back the recoil.

I'm now looking for a brake for my 338 Lapua and want to try something a bit different. The American Precision Arms and the Terminator brakes look
pretty interesting to me.

Current Muzzle Break is a Precision Armament - M11 Severe Duty

The brake arrived and needed those special washers to set it properly, took about 30 minutes as they increase in 5 degrees. One needed a little bit of sanding before I could get the position right.

The brake performed very well but it is quite large and produces quite the dust cloud if you are prone on the ground.

Recoil reduction I'd rate it at 8/10 it has little recoil, I am easily able to shoot all day with it on. It doesn't make my scope jump as I can acquire the target and watch the impact/splash over 400 yards.

Great brake if you can find one

Current muzzle brake is Ratworx big chubby muzzle brake CW-BCB-S3428

Installation is 3/4x28 and a smith needs to thread the barrel it has a clamp securing feature as well,
Price point 135us closer to 200cdn corlane's was the importer the last time I talked to them
Effectiveness, 8.5/10 more affective brakes are the fat bastard and terminator they have 4 gills and larger diameter to vent more gas.
Availability, unknown at this point as i have had it for 3 years now,
Durability, 416 stainless very durable
Ease of cleaning haven't bother to clean it... the bullet dia comes standard at .341 which is larger then typical 308 dia so i don't worry about carbon interfering with the bullets flight.

i have shot the Badger fte and the grizzly gun works the 2 gill fte is a an effective braking system but is not as affective as 3 gill models the grizzly recoils different as the gills are at 90o as opposed to the ratworx which is cup which appears to buffet the gasses better.

quick story on the effectiveness of the brake. I just got the brake installed the week after an 800yard precisions match, i took my 10x fix power scope off for the brake installation and failed to remember whether or not i returned to my 100 yard zero when i reinstalled the scope (no zero stop). Thinking i had not, I turned down another 24moa for my 100yard zero. my first test with the brake i didn't hit the target so i am thinking WTF. My 2nd shot i saw the bullet splash about 30 yards away from me. I had already turned the scope to 100 before i removed it. Had it not been for the brake i would have taken several additional shots to get back on target but with the brake I spun 24min up and hit the target. shooting my 308 now is like shooting a 22lr with big boy fun.
