What is case overall trim length for 308 norma mag? What is overall length once it is loaded? I like to use the LEE trim gauges is there any cartridge that is the same or should I but a 300 mag one and trim it down? Also looking for any brass??? Any one have some??? Thanks

trim length = 2.549"

OAL = 3.415"

*OAL is more dependant on the induvidual rifles magazine & throat length, can vary alot either way

Cyberdoggie; I have a Lee trim pilot for the 308 Norma Mag, but am reluctant to get rid of it in case a 308 Norma Mag comes my way sometime. You might get away with shortening a 300 Winny trim pilot, but it may not work. If the pin that goes through the flash hole is too short, the main trim pilot may contact the web of the case before the pin contacts your lock stud, leaving your cases too long. The nominal length of the 308 Norma is 2.560" and the 300 Win Mag is 2.620", with trim usually being .010" shorter. That means there is a .060 difference in the case length of these two Mags. Lee should still be able to supply the proper pilot. Regards, Eagleye.

Been there with other cartridges. I'd try:

1. Trimming a 300 Win Mag down 0.060" (as suggested);
2. Using a 30/06 trimmer but with the primer in place (and possibly a trim);
3. Use a 270 Win Trimmer with a couple of rounds of tape to make up the neck difference (will be a bit short @ 2.540" though); or
4. Custom order from Lee (not expensive).

I like the Lee system, but if you buy an RCBS or other type of trimmer this is all moot as they are infinitely adjustable.

Just order a custom trim pilot from Lee Precision. They will do it for you, no problem.

I have a custom collet neck-sizing die in 270 Wby. It works great!

They are happy to do this kind of work.

I had a trim guage made for my 308 norma two years ago by lee. It works great, and the cost and time to get it were very reasonable. Get their phone number off the net, call em up, and have it made. This way you have the right tool for the right job.
