10-12 prob be better... Not many 308's have a 8" twist. A 12 can take bullets, 155gr and heavier way past 500 yards

12 twist 308's can stabilize ANYTHING. They EASILY stabilize 190's. It is absolute horse#### that you need anything more than a 12 twist to stabilize anything you can accurately shoot from a 308.

The 6.5-284 is a terrific cartridge capable of incredible long range precision, but suffers from terrible barrel life. Do not count on more than 1000 accurate rounds and if you use VLD bullets, you need to seat for a reapidly eroding throat. 308 can have 5-10X the barrel life of a 6.5x284,
