308 savage lever action

Savage lever action rifles are reliable and very strong but somewhat weak in extraction.
Big question is, what calibre, .308 winchester, 300 savage ect. Be sure before you buy. .300 Savage is sort of what .308 winchester was based on way back when but it's becoming quite hard to come by.
Does the rifle have a detachable magazine? If so it is newer production. I'm totally versed on these rifles but I do like them.

250 without seeing it, sounds like a good price for a gun in good condition.
Wait for Maddog, our resident '99 expert.
Have you got any details of the gun?
Serial#? Forend type? Checkered, and type of checkering?

The 300 savage, if it turns out to be that, is just as capable as the 308 that replaced it. It is however, somewhat harder to get ammo for. It's still in production, but you'll likely only find it in a gun shop.

The 308 of course is available everywhere.

These guns TEND to be reasonably accurate. (Meaning that not all of them are)

Go for it, $250 ! You can't go wrong for that, you could part it out for more than $250.

What model is it, and what is the serial number around?

nah i cant get a look at it for a few days, it is 308(or at least thats what im told., and i doubt it would be new production. asuming its 308 and in good condition (as i was told) whats a estimate on its used value? and if 300308 would affect that estimate. ( so ill know just how good a deal im getting).

also i could get a winchester 30-30 lever with peep sights for 100. i dont know the model of the winchester tho.

and a browning auto 5 for 150

If it's a pre-mil 308 (lever safety) it'll be worth around $550 depending on model and condition, could go $800 if it's mint. If it's a post mil production it'll be around $475 again, depending on condition.

Not sure on Winchesters but the auto 5 will get ya $350 roughly depending on cond.....
