Hey guys

I have a .308 barreled action I want to rechamber from .308 to 30-350 rem mag

Do I need a special reamer or are there another combination of reamer that may work? Where could I get dies? I was just going to either neck down or up .350 rem mag or 6.5 rem mag respectively for brass.

I need to open up the bolt face as well but I think that's a fairly cut and dry process

Any help in this endeavor would be much appreciated!

If you are opening up the bolt face for a Magnum cartridge anyways, the 300 WSM would be the easy button here. The RM case doesn't really get you much more than '06 performances and you'd still have to figure out dies and a reamer.

Two reamer runs. 6.5 Rem Mag. 308 Winchester.
Custom dies or neck size with a 300 wsm. Bump with a 350 Rem Mag die.

Just typing, no I have never done it.

Hey guys thanks for the replies!

I has though the wsm route but for my action, a rem 600 action, would need the bolt face opened, a new sako extractor, ejection port opened up, new mag box and follower exc. The gunsmith at corlanes told me that so I figured since the 600 was already made in 6.5 and 350 rem mag I figured a necked down 350 case would be a much easier conversion

Still have to do the bolt mods, and feeding will require some work. The 350 case has been necked up and down to pretty much every bore diameter common in NA. It is a good cartridge, gives you slightly more case capacity than the 06 based cases. - dan

You will be fuking up a good action by installing part of the Sako extractor system.

Originally the conversion was done to accommodate the PPC case on a 700 action... Why only part of the Sako extractor system was used I don't know. Perhaps the idea that the Sako "bolt guide" was actually a safety device escaped those who pioneered the conversion, or the fact that catastrophic case failures are rather rare.

The problem I have today with those conversions is very few of the owners know what they are getting into... perhaps many of those doing the conversion don't realize it either. I simply wish if you are thinking about having the conversion done you have the facts before hand.

The design of the Model 700/600 series action are superior to any other mass-produced 2 lug bolt action ever made , and that by installing only part of the extractor system from a Sako (2 locking lug action) completely compromises that design. But the alteration is completely unsafe when it happens. We are talking about a catastrophic case failure. They do not occur on a regular basis. (In the US there have been serious injuries and at least one death associated with this conversion).

A Sako extractor is safe in a two lug Sako so why shouldn't it be safe in a two lug Remington? ... Because when people install the Sako extractor in a Remington they do not install the Sako bolt guide, which is the safety design incorporated in the Sako. That bolt guide is there to protect the shooter and anyone close to the shooter if a case fails drastically. I do not understand why anyone would knowingly install only part of the Sako system. If the Sako extractor and the Sako bolt guide were installed then the Remington would be as safe as a Sako. Not as strong and safe as the Remington was before alteration but safe.

A picture showing how well the "deflector' did it's job.
