So this is now my 2nd post regarding best medium to big game ammo for my CZ 600. My goal is to find ammo that groups best and also that performs best when hunting (I haven't hunted yet so that is where I need advice) both medium to big game.

I tried lots of different ammo for CZ 600, many American, Swedish and this weekend I shot PPU, S&B & SAKO @ 100 yards (5 shot groups). It's a European rifle so I guess it makes sence it likes European ammo.

PPU - worst group, one missfire
S&B - 2" group
SAKO - 1,5" group, my best group yet

PPU I will not buy again due to missfire (fired on 2nd attempt), groups weren't great either. S&B goes for about $32, seems like great value ammo for just about anything, SAKO about $50, seems like high quality ammo specifically for big game (would probably work for medium game too), also SAKO bullet looks better, S&B looks weird.

Anyway, how do you guys like S&B, SAKO bullets? Have you hunted with them before? What's your experience with them?

I love and shoot 308 too but I prefer light 130gr copper loads for mine. In the lead category I would choose 150-165 bonded personally. 180gr starts getting very sluggish in 308. I think that 150 bonded is very underestimated in 308.

I’ve used 150, 165 and 200’s out my .308 over the years. Shooting through the shoulder into the heart kills regardless of weight. The heart doesn’t know the difference between Lead core, Partition or Barnes X. No varmint or target bulllets because they disintegrate on bone.
I was shooting 3.5 inch five shot groups KNEELING at 100 before I went hunting with my .308 when I was 13.
You should shoot standing and kneeling from now on to prepare you for hunting in the field. That S&B is a round nose bullet. Not for long range. Just like you. You’re a first time hunter. Keep it under 200 yards and hold on tight. POA wandering during recoil until bullet exit is the killer of light rifle accuracy. If it feels different to your hands or shoulder between shots you have no hope of consistency.
I still hunt under 200 because I like to hit the off switch. Rolling an Elk off it’s belly is prick of job though.

Within average/typical hunting ranges, I wouldn't think it'll matter.

Both seem like decent bullets. A half inch difference in grouping is nothing.

You putting it where it counts is gonna be everything.

I don't know those but was always surprised how Federal Power Shok 180gr SP shoots well in many rifles. I harvested a few mooses with it. For affordable hunting ammo, I'd start there. They make lighter ones too.

About kneeling and standing, you can practice that dry trought a window of your home. If budget is limited, spend ammo zeroing, chronographing and confirming drop.

I had an entire box of nosler factory ammo in 30-06 that wouldn’t fire on the first hit in one of my rifle but fine in an other….
I had really good success with Hornady factory eld-x in most of my 30-06!

With a 308 I would stick with 150 to 165 gn bullets, a bit more velocity and plenty good up to moose up to 250yds

Federal Power Shok Soft Point 180 gr is best for my CZ 600.

0.5'group 100 yard

^This^

I've never shot anything but targets with it, but I've always gotten great accuracy with Federal Power Shok regardless of the caliber.

I tested several 180 gr. .30-06 Springfield loads from different manufacturers back in the 90's and Federal Classic was the best (It's now Power Shok.) The range was 100 yards. I would consistently put a 20 round box into a ragged hole that I could easily cover with a quarter. The groups were probably slightly larger than a dime. (I didn't measure my groups back then.)

I tried it against Remington Green Box, Winchester Super X, Hornady Custom, and Federal Premium.

The Federal Classic grouped just as well as the Federal Premium and the Hornady Custom, and the interiors of the cases were the cleanest with the two Federal loads. Winchester was the dirtiest ammo.....it had black soot inside. IIRC, Remington grouped the worst.

FWIW, I've shot some 173 gr. 7x57mm Prvi Partizan (PPU) out of a 1935 Brazilian Mauser and it was crazy accurate at 100 M.

I would go with federal
Fusions
Terminal assent
Trophy bonded
Unless you reload
There’s a YouTube guy that makes videos and he has tested the most rifle rounds of anyone else I can find , 100 yard ballistic gel tests
Channels name is mason outdoors I believe

PPU always been stellar for me, especially the Match Line for paper punching in both 7x57and 8x57. My M77 in 7x57 loves the 173 grain S&B SPCE. The very best for me, however, are the Norma Oryx or Norma Vulcan and RWS Evolution--if you can find it. I use them exclusively in my CZ 557 Lux.

You are over thinking things.
180’s outta the 308 is not that difficult, since you are not even getting impact velocities any where near 2800 fps. Most any advertised hunting bullet of cup and core design is going to kill game with minimal issues.
Base your choice off of what the rifle likes best.
I’ll echo comments to try lighter bullets too.

I’ve shot lots of game with a 308 Win and have never used a 165 or 180 gr YET ? Always being 150 gr- ! Good speed out them ! JMO a good quality Bullet and the PROPER SHOT PLACEMENT will tip over them all ! 😊

1000 s of deer bear elk moose etc shot with a 270 Win and “ 130 gr “ bullets “ SUCESSFULLY “ what makes everyone think they need a 165 or a 180 from a 308 🤷‍♂️
