went to the range today . Wasn't looking to develop load or anything just took me Dad out to go bang bang for a while in the afternoon. few cheap boxes of winchester 223 (to make empty brass good for nuthin else) the little 17 hmr and a .308. looking for a new F-class rig and thinking of starting out life as a remington 700 in 308 as a doner and re-barrel to 6 BR (I know very original train of thought) do not currently have a remington 700 in 308 ( but lots or so on EE) but i do have a 6 pound soaking wet Huskavarna sporter barrel in 308 so pick up a box of 180 grainers and send em on down range.

question is ... would a F-class 308 be any gentler than this cause this seems like a poor choice of caliber to be doing 15-20 shot strings
i think the poor rifle weighted less than a rempel bi-pod

Weight, stock design & recoil pad will make a tremendous difference in felt recoil.

I had a .308 with wooden stock, rubber strip on the butt (1/8th" or so) and it weighed ~7 pounds - couple shots and would be sore / bruised.

Have a Rem. 5R with recoil pad that weighs ~12 pounds and dont even think about recoil when shooting it (60 rounds last weekend, no issues at all). Surprisingly my T/C Icon ~8 pounds is about as gentle.
