Any one ever build, load, or shoot a 30x284? What kind of velocity were you getting?

This is just going to be for a hunting rifle, the goal here is to waste money.

On the gunsmithing side of things I would probably re-chamber an existing 308. I would cut the BBL shoulder back and chamber deep enough to get rid of all the existing neck. Would also pre-bore the existing chamber to get it running dead true to the world then chamber.

Thoughts?

I've had one.

In a 2.800 magazine you start intruding into case capacity with bullets bigger than 165 grains, and some longer bullets like accubonds will seat to 2.800 with the ogive inside the case mouth.

Mine was a re-chambered 308. The slight diff in neck diameter really ins't worth the effort/expense to set the barrel back several threads, but then, it helps achieve your goal to waste money.

Lee makes dies, and have a good expander ball.

Thanx RGV
I need to look at some numbers and do some math. I did intend to shoot 165 accubonds or ballistic tips out of this thing they may be seated past the ogive. Would probably trim brass back a bit for aesthetics and order a reamer with zero freebore.

Also need to get some brass just to see if it will feed in my Remington action without much fuss.

exercise in futility- did one in a savage 99, then had it put back for all the bother and loss of one round- if you want an 06, get an 06- for all the diff between that and a 308

Those were my thoughts.
Why not put a 7mm bullet in a 284 Win... for better balistics. Oh,... that may have already been done.:D:D

Ya, but I already have a couple 30-06's and few 308's in fact too many 308's

A 7mmx284 sounds interesting ;)

I would re chamber my 7-08 to 284 but it shoots waaay to good to mess with.

I will have something based of the 284 case damit! :D

7mm IS 284- what are you talking about- 7mm mauser, 7mm08, 284 winchester, , 280 remmy, 7mm remmy mag/weatherby-they're ALL 284 DIAMETER bullets- you can switch back and forth provided you respect the case capacity- the only diff between the 7mm /08 and the 284 is the DIAMETER OF THE CASE- ie it's a FAT 7mm/08

Sigh. Humour. See the smiley? - dan

Charles Ballard set a 2008 national record using a straight 284 win seems like a winner to me.
Have been reading up on this cartrige lately and might build one for f-open in the near future.
