#314299 speed limit

So been casting 200gr bullets for my enfields, going to size them to 0.314 and gas check them, I have sluged my enfield ill be using in and should be a great fit, question is how fast can I push these, the harness is around 22 with a gas check, could I push them up to 2200fps, of should I keep the speed down?

Iam pushing same at 2200 with SPG lube , works good. I size .312. Using IMR 4198. Slight leading at muzzle after about 80 rounds.

I'm gonna try with h4895, figure I'll start at 32gr and work up to 36

I load them to 18-1900fps out of a jungle Carbine. I can't say I have noticed much leading. I use 4198.

You can always powder coat them.

I only got 1700 fps with 27 gr h4895 IIRC, with the last no 4 Enfield I had. After that accuracy went out the window. I need to get some 4198.

How much 4198 are you using?

Start working up a load from 1400 fps , Keep track of group size. There is a point where the group size will start to open up.
In my 30/06 that is about 1850 fps with Alex lube and a gas check. Powder coating Bullets may increase the speed point where the group sizes open up
Bottom line, it depends on the alloy, bore size, bullet diameter, depth of rifling, velocity , lube or powder coat,

Don’t forget powder type too. I have been having ok prelimary results with slower powders that can fill the case(reloader 22 in 30.06). Trying to keep peak pressure down is the key to high speed cast in my opinion. My goal is Trying to reach top speeds with air cooled gas checked bullets.

and Barrel twist
groups will prob open up around 1800 fps so you want to be 1700-1800 fps

check out data using unique cast and 303br

still good enough for a less than 100yd deer load or a light paper puncher

I have a couple lee enfeilds and some have seen a bit of use with probably less than 50 percent of the rifling left. I find they shoot great with paper patched 314. Not certain if you want to paper patch but works great for me. And I through mine out near 1800fps

I agree with that. A slightly slower powder that doesn't get to peak pressure as quickly seems to be useful for preventing leading at the start of the rifling.

I find that I usually load up until signs of leading start then backoff. I find 24 grs of IMR 4198 works well. Some people have good luck with AA- 5744 , but for the price difference iam not interested in spending more. I have also been trying 2400 with a starting load of 16 grs,19 grs works. 2400 is the old time go to powder for cast bullets. A starting load of 16 grs in any full size military case works well. Large cases take a few more grs. 2400 is not position sensitive in case like other reduced loads with a lot of air space. I never worry about velocity,I am more interested in hitting the target. How fast can you kill a piece of paper or a steel gong. Most military rifles have lots of site adjustment so bullet arc is no problem.
