What steps would a gunsmith perform to deactivate a prohibited .32 semi-auto pistol so it meets the RCMP rules?

I thinking things like welding the barrel, drill the barrel, welding the slide....

What about the magazine, trigger or hammer ? What about brazing instead of welding.

Why not call someone like Barry Jensen at Bits of Pieces in Delta, BC and ask him?

Yes; The rcmp site was the first place I checked but could only find the description "permanent".
I was after details of what a gunsmith would perform on a .32 semi auto to achieve the desired results.

there are no laws that i know of regarding gun deactivation in canada. the booklet put out by the rcmp are exactly that suggestions and guidelines and are not law. this is a grey area.

Just one more question please: When the guidelines say "welded" would a gunsmith use oxy-acetylene welding or electric arc weld or something else?

AFAIK deact's have to be examined by the Gravel Road Cops' own firearms techs to double check the gunsmith's certificate. Some gunsmiths were signing off reversable deactivations, and now the rest of us must jump through another hoop.

Another question to the gunsmiths out there:

I have read the "Canadian Firearms Registry Deactivation Guide". On a prohibited .32 semi-auto I know the barrel needs to be plugged with a steel rod and welded;
also the barrel needs to be welded to the frame.
I don't see that the slide needs to be welded to the frame. Does it or does "the receiver must be welded closed to prevent replacement of the breech bolt" specify that in a round about way?
